Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said “A city which is two steps ahead of its citizen’s needs is a smart city”.
In 2015, the Government launched the Smart Cities Mission, under the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) Initiative. The aim of this mission is to develop 100 cities (target revised to 109 cities) across the Country with a view to revolutionize the urban landscape of India.

With the growing population creating increased pressure on metropolitan centers in India, there is an urgent requirement for ‘smartly’ developed cities to meet the growing urban demand.
These smart cities are envisioned to be well developed centers that are both residential and commercial hubs, thereby being self-contained units that provide employment opportunities, housing, quality education, easy accessibility, recreational and medical facilities to all its residents. The initiative was allocated funding to the tune of Rs.48,000 crores over the next 5 years.[1]

Through the Unlocking Opportunities in Smart Cities Program taught via a combination of live case studies, interactive lectures and discussions, participants will understand the broad array of interdisciplinary requirements in Smart Cities and seek opportunities in planning, advisory or implementation of Smart City projects.

Shubika Bilkha, Business-Head, REMI, said, “Through the Unlocking Opportunities Smart Cities Program, we at REMI- The Real Estate Management Institute, look to contribute to the Government’s Smart Cities Mission and facilitate industry development by equipping businesses and individuals with the requisite multi-disciplinary skills needed to take advantage of the Smart City opportunity. The program designed and taught by industry thought leaders such as Gaia Smart Cities and Futuristic Cities, is a unique offering structured in line with executive education programs at leading universities globally. As the sector metamorphoses, it is incumbent on real estate, real estate ancillary services and infrastructure businesses and professionals to enhance their skills to stay relevant and remain competitive in an evolving environment.”

Dr. Sumit D Chowdhury, Founder & CEO of Gaia Smart Cities, “This is India’s first masterclass on Smart Cities for practitioners by practitioners – conceptualised by Gaia Smart Cities – to bring together knowhow and experience from global markets and on-ground understanding of challenges and opportunities from local markets, to solve real problems facing Indian cities in a resilient Indian way.
